Invitation to join Patient Focus Groups to influence Renal Research

Greater Manchester Kidney Information Network (GMKIN) seeks patient involvement from across Greater Manchester in setting priorities and refining kidney research in Salford and Manchester

  • Do you want to influence kidney research in Greater Manchester?
  • Are you passionate about patients and their families having a voice within their healthcare service?

Improving care for patients is at the heart of why we do research. The Salford Royal kidney research team have over 20 years of experience of research studies and more than 3000 kidney patients have taken part. The experiences and views of patients and their families are important in:

  • Setting priorities for the kind of research we do
  • Designing and refining the research plans

GMKIN is working with Doctor Ags Odudu, a kidney researcher who works at Salford Royal Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary. We are seeking 2 groups of around 12 patient representatives to meet in Salford or Manchester about 3 times each year. For example, we are updating Salford’s Kidney research studies to capture more information about different ways in which kidney disease affects physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Patients who are immediately pre-dialysis, dialysing (PD or HD) or post-transplant are welcome to join the focus groups.  Carers too!

There are many ways that you can get involved, from providing a patient view of research information sheets to giving feedback on the type and timing of the tests involved. Some of this may take place by telephone or email.

Your travel expenses will be paid.

If you have any further questions please contact Dr Ags Odudu (email: aghogho.odudu@nhs.net; twitter: @ags_odudu) Rob Finnigan email: mod@gmkin.org.uk or telephone on 0161 3062621).

Please share with friends and colleagues who may be interested.
